Microsoft Access 2003 -> Access 2007 compatibility problems

Having a strange one at work. Basically, our company operates using quite a few Access 2003 databases (heavily VBA driven). Our company has won another contract and taken over new offices as a result of this. The thing is, the new offices are running on Microsoft Office 2007, and when openning the databases with 2007, it seems to be converting them to a 2007 format.

This works for opening them in 2007 fine - but when you go to re-open the same database in 2003, it states the file is corrupt and we have to do a backup of the database to access it again...

Is there any way around this, or has Microsoft moved on and not given much thought for backwards compatibility?

Cheers for your help!

Got the same problem myself with a customer.

Only way round it, that I know of, is if I (a 2007 user) explicitly "Save As..." 2000-2003 compatibility which is an option.

Other than that, I really don't know.

You can save the Access 2007 files to Access 1997-2003 format.

Edit - Just looked and if you click on the button in the left hand corner and click Access options you will get a menu. You should be on the Popular tab. Under Creating databases is a default file format option. It's probably on Office 2007. From the dropdown change it to Access 2002-2003.

Don't know about 1997-2003, but you definately can save it as 2000-2003 format.

Click on "Save As..." and you'll see several options:

Save Object As
Access 2007 Database
Access 2002-2003 Database
Access 2000 Database

True ~J~ the 1997-2003 seems to be from Word 2007. I thought that perhaps it would be mirrored across Office 2007.

And I think the OP would like it so that Access 2007 can be made to save to Office 2003 mode and not require the users to have to do this themselves. :)

Spot on the money, Marc! I'll give it a go as soon as I get a computer with Office 2007 installed upon my desk :] Cheers fellas!

Just out of interest MoNkeE, here's something that may work then (by the way, I haven't tested this as I'm unable to at the moment):

Goto "Access Options"
Select "Popular"
Then scroll down and change the "Default File Format" from Access 2007 to Access 2002-2003 (or whatever version you specifically want).

Might work.
