I've just installed Windows Vista 64-BIT Ultimate edition for the first time. On a side note it is great, first impressions was that it tended to be a little slower than XP (my PC is not great though and I am yet to get all the updates).

Anyway I made a thread weeks back about my X-FI not working on XP and my mobo. First thing I tried was to connect the card and try the drivers. To my great suprise they worked without a hitch and sound good.

Now to my problem. I went to instal my Wireless keyboard and mouse and had no problems with the mouse (as I choose to not use a passkey). I cant select "do not use passkey" for the keyboard as its just not possible as people will know with wireless keyboards.

Does anyone know why I cant get Bluetooth to accept my keyboard? it finds the keyboard OK it just does not want to accept my passkey no matter what I enter. I have tried 0000 and 0001 and lots of other random ones. I have also tried letting Windows assign the passkey and no luck.

I am using a Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth Keyboard and the bluetooth is the one that came with the keyboard.. both Microsoft

I do not have any bluetooth devices myself as I have no need for them. But I have set-up various devices for my dad.

He got a bluetooth adapter for his phones, instead of specifying a passkey try randomly creating one.

Then create a paring with the keyboard and adapter.

how do I create a pairing?

Its in the bluetooth adapter options somewhere or in the actual bluetooth device options...I don't live with my dad you see so I can't check unfortunately.

Scrap that you are getting confused with phones. This is a keyboard I'm trying to connect. Slightly different process. You dont paid them as you would with a mobile phone, its a little bit different.. hard to explain.

I have used this keyboard time and time again I have only just installed Vista.

The mouse is installed fine with bluetooth as I did not have to specify a passcode. However, I do with the keyboard.

The Keyboard I cannot get to accept the passkey no matter what I try. 0000, 000000, 1234 etc etc selecting random key to be generated also fails. I have searched google for HOURS now and people have said they have similar problems but it looks like none have been resolved.

I am kicking myself because this happend before when I tried the beta of windows vista over a year ago and somehow I got a fix around it. For the life of me I cannot remember it. SOMEONE out there must have some sort of idea!?!?!

EDIT: Found my post about this previously with Vista and that fix idea does not work for me. I am totally at a loss now. sigh.

EDIT: First one to help fix this problem will receive £5 via paypal!

I have this setup. It took me two or three attempts to get the keyboard paired in Vista Ultimate x64.

Let the installer choose the passkey for you, then once you see the numbers turn bold (and not before), type them in using the numbers above the keys, not the numeric pad. Then hit enter.

It might fail and say something about not exchanging passkeys. Just try again and it will eventually work. Did for me.
