hi,

i previously had a microsoft internet keyboard and if i set it up in the bios i could hit ctrl + F1 and it would boot the machine, which i liked. it was handy.

now i've got a microsoft digital media pro keyboard and i have the hot key set up in the bios but it doesn't work.

how do i enable this function?

one thing that i think might be causing the problem is the fact that this keyboard has alternative functions for the function keys (f1 - f12) which i have disabled by hitting the flock key on the keyboard. but i wonder if when the system is powered down the keyboard goes back to its default setting (alternative functions enabled).

anybody got any ideas.

well that settles it. it is the keyboard.

immediately i read your post i went back into the bios and looked again (i've checked it out more than once to see if anything was stopping the keyboard power on). i searched for legacy usb support but it is not there. but usb keyboard support is there and it is enabled.

it must be the alternative function keys on this keyboard. for example, by default f5 is the open command, f6 is close, f9 is send. really annoying this, so as soon as i got the keyboard i hit f lock which puts all the function keys back to normal settings.

but i think when the computer is powered down the keyboard must go back to the silly settings, which would prevent the ctrl and f1 boot key working.

what do you think?

:D thanks for posting with that. i feel better now i know someone else had this too.

oh well, just have to get used to always opening the front door of the case and hitting the power button

is there an option which allows you to choose what key/combo of keys turns it on, i know my dfi lanparty was set up so i hit the space bar and it turned on. im not sure but i think it was called 'any key on' which was under power settings in bios
