This update improves the features and performance of the following components:

Release Date: February 26, 2013

Direct2D
DirectWrite
Direct3D
Windows Imaging Component (WIC)
Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP)
Windows Animation Manager (WAM)
XPS Document API
H.264 Video Decoder
JPEG XR codec

No idea what specifically is in the update, but it could be the new DX11 feature that AMD have been trumpeting.

If you find it post it here please, I'll happily take a free performance upgrade. ;)

Yeah I did a quick look and found nothing sadly :( Part of me is thinking this is something windows 8 has already and they're just pushing it back to Win7. The primary focus of the updates appears to be towards the DirectX SDK itself and Windows 8 SDK.

If I'm wrong though it should certainly pop up for Win8, and surely I'd imagine MS would release this for 7/8 at the same time if it was towards DX runtime?

I think you might be right there. I just ran windows update and it updated a few things, don't think this was included though. Appreciate the effort to look for me. :)

Thats what i did, then as i always do i checked to see what that update was.

check to see what it was. ;)

Looks like its mostly fixes and optimisations to hardware rendering of 2D features especially text rendering (probably relevant to aero, etc.).

All of you stay on Windows 7 or earlier. Please never upgrade, especially if you're into benchmarks or games. Terrible scores and lower fps all round. Right Locky?

If its a choice of + 0.2 FPS and a really badly thought out interface thats just annoying beyond reason while also managed to be so backwards and long winded to use you spend more time steeping through a mase of hopes to get to some apps you had might as well not bother and with that keep your hair.

Its designed for touch screen Tablets, i'm sure its pretty good for that, but it seems a deliberate attempt to engineer the Desktop power user completely out of it, as they have removed a lot of it or made it difficult to get to.

Presumably Microsoft assume people like me would just give up and buy their Tablets, what they don't realise is (because Microsoft are not the most intelligent people) it just makes me develop an unhealthy hate for their products.

So a Windows Tablet is the last thing i will buy.

Metro UI is crappy but that's so easily taken care of now its not even an issue. As for tablets the only tablets ill ever buy are viagra when things stop working as efficiently as they do now.

I had windows 8 and now went back to windows 7. I do like windows 8 but I was having issues with dpc latency audio and video stutter. Tried everything to fix it in the end give up and now back using windows 7.

After reading about when I as looking at fixing it, and it seem to be a massive issue atm with win8.

But even when I was using win8 I kept trying to using it lie windows 7 and I never used any of the windows 8 features so it's pointless using it.
