Microsoft Ditch the HD-DVD odd- on

I think your mis informed :)

About what? i remember loads of articles at the time spouting on about the fact that games makers will be using the extra storage space and that its not just for films. I wonder how many people actually believed it all  Its almost like watching the sega mega-cd all over again ! hehehe

I'd like to see one of these articles, because they said right from the start that it wouldn't be used for games.

It was said from day 1 that it would be a movie only format, Mircosoft said many times that it would never be used for games.

Oh well maybe i misread at the time, i dont own one of the new console so im not into reading all about them. Still a real annoyance for early adopters though.

not really, MS offered a HD DVD add on, thats all, the end of HD DVD is an annoyance to all HD DVD owners. Glad I didn't buy one now:)

Where's needles when you need him... could do with a nice big FAIL pic on here :p

me or microsoft?:D

Besides i still remember reading some comments at the time saying that games would use it however im not so anal as to spend hours scouring google trying to find some 3 or 4 year old comments :D

I dont own consoles so im not fussed anyway, just saw the item on the bbc site and thought some of you might be interested. Ill learn to keep away from the console section in the future, you lot are like a pack of wolves :p

Theres a place in the states selling them for $49.99 at the moment.

I've also being buying films for $9.98 from the states. Think its a good time to be buying the films if you've already got the HD-DVD drive.

So out of interest will this dent the xbox camp much? i suspect they will release a blu-ray player add on before long due to demand for one?

I saw an atricle the other day, tis a decision for sony

It's their tech, and allowing a 360 addon will boost sales an attach rates

But then would you let your biggest competitor license your format, thus removing one of your USP's for the PS3? It's a hard one

So far it's rumoured that Sony are dragging their heels

I doubt it'll make much difference at all, it's for playing movies. The console's primary function is playing games.

Definitely you. MS have always stated that it was never to be used for games, but there's no need to get stroppy.

Utter rubbish. Sony does not decide who can and can't license Blu Ray. The Blu Ray board of directors is 18 companies strong and it's likely that everyone is able to license Blu Ray on the same terms.

Microsoft don't even need to source the hardware from Sony as there's plenty of companies making Blu Ray hardware.

I sold my player on eBay for £60 with 5 HD-DVD's. I feel free now and Im thinking of getting a PS3, loading Ubuntu on it and using it as a blu ray player... unless its the PS3's software that makes it such a good blu ray player/dvd upscaler?
