Microsoft Edge Redirect Issue

Was all working fine yesterday and today turned on my computer and Edge now keeps redirecting my searches to either Bing or Yahoo but before it does i can see it hits another redirect site before it does this.

It's going to: https://goog.istakechau.autos/ before it lands on either the bing or yahoo search engine pages instead of my set google default.

How one earth can i fix this? I've tried resetting edge but doesn't do anything.

Have yet to try a reinstall yet.

Edit: Can't even uninstall and reinstall since its part of windows now!

I have removed bing and yahoo from the list of search engines in Edge settings but still not fixed. It's like it lands on google search first then redirects to bing or yahoo afterwards.

Any help appreciated! Thanks!

Will do after work tonight, not had anything like in years.

Would a system restore fix this if it is spyware?

I don’t think it will because spyware attaches itself to different things. I’ve not had a restore work with spyware. I would do some full system scans. I’m more than positive this will fix your issue. I think a reset of Microsoft edge “might” work as well but again without trying it won’t know for certain.

Free version of Malwarebytes is a good one for a good check too.

But I agree with @Bouton Aide , a clean install is never a bad thing. I have barely anything that needs to be replaced on the boot drive that takes any time to reinstall, all the important useful stuff is on separate and/or external drives.

Yeh this is what I meant to say as well forgot the name of them I haven't used them in over 5 years.
Ha, that's the only one I could remember tbh, I'd forgotten about the search & destroy one.

I do actually just do a clean install if I get anything annoying happens now seeing as it can be quicker than finding and dealing with issues.

I'll try a full scan first then and see how that goes before i go diving into anti spyware programs.

Such an annoyance this is, i did a full reinstall not that long ago as well. It's probably been 10+ years since i've had a virus of any kind on my computer.

Clean windows install time.
I hope not but if its the only way then meh! Wasn't too bad installing Win11 last time. There's nothing on my main OS drive except the OS so should be fine, nothing to reinstall except the basic monitoring programs i use.

Check if you've got any unwanted extensions installed
I checked this last night and the only recent install seems to be some webview2 runtime edge program but it seems to be part of microsoft edge as you can't uninstall it.

No extensions i can see physically either.

As a last minute resort last night, i switched to firefox but like you say guys i can't just leave a spyware program running in the background so i may very well end up doing a reinstall if i can't fix it.

Just an update it was spyware and Malwarebytes managed to find it and delete it. It was part of some Chrome helper crap that had somehow gotten installed into documents/users.

Stopped using Edge just incase and using firefox now. The redirect no longer happens which is a good thing!

I don't mess about when a system starts to get problems. If I can't fix it within 1 hour it gets formatted.
I've migrated everything off the main drive now, there were a few apps that i still used off the main drive but no more! It'll be an easy reinstall next time! I'm surprised i didn't have to reinstall drivers especially for the motherboard etc! It was already installed.
