When i input the text 1E5 into the cell it changes to 1.E+05,
how on earth do i just get it to remain as 1E5.

Its doing my head in. :mad:

Custom number format "0.00E-00"
However it will show 1e-05 as "1.00E-05"

Right click the cell and select 'Format Cells...' change the category to 'text', you may need to enter the text again.

Also, for future reference, typing a single quote/apostrophe ' at the beginning of what you are typing into a cell marks it as text. Helpful when you want some text to start off with an equals sign or so on, which Excel wants to make into a formula. '=text will just display =text in the cell.
