Microsoft Hololens

The live demo looked amazing, they said it will be ready in the lifespan of windows 10. Which if that's like other windows is about 3years.

Surely this is similar thing and from the vid a better implementation of Google Glass. When was it announced ? Recently when Google canned their glasses ?

You are still going to look a divvy unless others have the glasses. That was the main problem reported with Google Glass.

This sort of thing wont catch on till we dont have to wear something to see the computer generated images.

Well there's a few 'hands on' articles floating around which seem to suggest that they have achieved what you see in the videos. If they have and we'll see it on the shelves within the next few years, it would be pretty exciting stuff.

It's not anything like google glass.

It's not relay designed to be worm out like google glass, it's for business and home use and all about holographic mixing virtual reality with the real world. Not navigating, taking video etc.

I'm all aboard this hype train, some articles already claiming the quality is so good it's hard to believe that it's not real.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but if this works like it says it does, would you be able to slot yourself into historical settings, a la Star Trek holodeck?

That would be beyond cool.

I thought it was more manipulation holograms where it works with the surroundings to place virtual objects onto. I guess if you had the space it could potentially do that, but the way they're using "light" not sure it would work in 3D space?

This method could let you have Elvis performing in your living room or jamie Oliver cooking with you in the kitchen :)

It's too awesome for words!

Didn't MS also post unrealistic stuff for both the Kinect 1 AND 2, I am not going to get bitten yet again, will wait till well after release before getting excited

I would be happy to pay a fair amount for this, IF it works as demonstrated.

I have paid £350 for a graphics card and more the X1 and a lot more for a full PC solution.

If it came in at around the £500 mark i wouldn't complain due to the feature set it seems to have. I don't see why £500 to £600 is such a big deal? Yes this is a lot of money but at this stage its only really going to be bought by early adopters or enthusiasts anyway which will help to drive the price down over time. Think how much you pay for a good 4k monitor or a good SLI graphics setup or an apple watch (defiantly haven't bought one of these!), etc

However and this is a big however if it doesnt work like shown on the demonstrations or this is noticible lag or any number of other niggles then its a no buy from me.

Its one of those things that if it hits the sweet spot it will sell, but there are lots of things that could go wrong and most of them really small but any one of them would be a show stopper for a lot of people
