firefox works fine and i think other non-microsoft stuff should work fine

they were working fine before, just some sudden thing :( im running virus/spyware checks now, but it shouldnt be a firewall issue

Check your hosts file.

Located at 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc'

have notepad open and drag the file into the notepad window and paste the results here.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

think i see the problem myself :) im not on a network i connect directly to modem so would my IP address go in place of the 127.0.0.1???

just tryed my IP address and the default gateway in hosts, outlook now works (slowly) but i-explorer still dosnts work, msn makes attept but dosnt connect

Try restarting your router, releasing / renewing your IP and restarting the PC which will probably fix it - also flush your DNS.

1. Click Start, Click Run, type CMD and press entre - black DOS box should appear
2. If you're on any other drive than C:\ type C:\
3. Type IPCONFIG /RELEASE
4. Type IPCONFIG /RENEW
5. Type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

Remember to restart router as well if possible if you're on a network and other PC's are working then the above should probably fix it.

done it! was a common problem, in tool/internet options/connection 'tab'/LAN settings the 'auto detect settings' box had unticked itself and the 'use proxy server for LAN' box had ticked itself making my ie unusable :( works now, but is there a file to go with these settings that i could make read-only or summot?
