Microsoft investigates Windows 7 'screen of death'

It sounds to me like they don't actually know yet what the problem is. Can't say I've had any issues after recent updates though.

Don't see why this is major news, always things like this going on, often caused by 3rd party security software

Yeah, that was my impression too. The article is just very badly written and doesn't really contain any useful information. Poor standard of journalism by the BBC.

I did get a BlackSOD last night, but it was during a level change in L4D2 so I doubt it was down to the OS.

I havent any problems - it went all right - I think Ive updated 2 files but not look like to be security fix patch - something like XML update that all I already updated last week. after Logon and then went to all full desktop in few seconds - same as my dad own PC.

Pfft, I used to get that on Vista YEARS ago. The real story is why has it taken this long to hit the news?

FYI the only "fix" I ever found was to reinstall and cross your fingers.

We've already had a customer contact us concenred that they're all likely to be struck down because of this

Hysteria over nothing

I heard this on radio1 newsbeat in the car a few moments ago, and it is almost impossible to tell what thye are actually attempting to report. Radio 1 newsfail at its prime, they appeared to patronise me and say windows 7 was bugged, then qualify the statement by saying it affected xp and vista and was due to a secuirty update, but they weren't sure as microsoft was investigating.
Then the text us if you've seen a black screen ending. Radio 1 made by tards for no specific target audience.

I've been getting blackouts on my screen for about a week or so in Win7 and a friend running Vista has just mentioned he's been having the same problem - Screen goes black for a few seconds then comes back, in my case i dont get the black screen on start-up (i think), just now and again while im using it

I just assumed it was a recent windows update as its never done this before :/

I have had about 10 Blue screen of deaths since W7.

I had had a different error report every time as well.

Checked memory, overclock, graphics card, temps, you name it..

Black screen as in the screen turns off completely as if its turned off or just black with the backlight? If that makes sense...

This wouldn't be the first time the BBC's over-zealous reporting on 'bugs' has been totally unfounded.

It's a shame, as it's giving Windows 7 a bad rep for no reason at all. This issue has been around for ages, and I've even experienced it with Vista, it's a graphics card driver issue I thought. Unless that's something else.

Mine does this sometimes when I turn the PC on, Windows looks like it's loading then it'll simply go black at the logon screen before I can do anything. I usually just reset it, works next time, no biggie!

Fix would be nice, tried every driver under the sun so far without any luck. Rather fond of Windows 7 though so it's not got a hope in hell of stopping me using it!
