Hello all,

I'm having a problem with a fresh install of office 2003, in that it say's office installed successfully but when i go to open outlook from within it i get a message as shown.

Please can someone help me locate and repair this problem, i'm at my wits end as even un-installing/re-installing doesn't help.

Many thanks ;)

Hi
Yeah i've looked into that, it doesn't seem to want to work trying those idea's.
I've also google'd for an updated version of the mapi32.dll, i'm not sure which way to go now. :(

Have you tried sticking the Disc back in and choosing to repair/re-install just outlook and see if it can rectify it!?

Oracle, Yeah i've tried re-install and also a repair install using the software, i'm just short of a new dll file to replace the old one according to the process by ms saying to rename the old one and replace with an updated/non corrupt version.

Chaos, i've since tried this, and the fixmapi.exe doesn't seem to work or if it does it doesn't fix the dll file.
I'm at a loss as to what to do now, no more idea's :(

can you not copy the naffed file from another machine running Office2003 (tested to be working)? That would be my next trick :)

Thanks mate, i'll look into that as i've got my g/f's laptop that has office on it and it's working (same version).
Just hope it works. :D

Tried this trick, still no joy? :(

Looks like i'm not getting a install of office on my pc again, well a working copy lol. Doh!

Got it sorted out, just installed a copy of office 12 beta tech refresh 1.

Works a treat ;)

Thanks to you all, for all your help even though i couldn't get it sorted.

Thread resurrect:
Did you by any chance install 2003 after having installed the 2007 Beta? Because I'm getting the exact same error message as you were after reverting back to 2003 from 2007. I made the mistake of not uninstalling 2007 first and it completely mucked things up: Outlook 2003 would give me the error message you were getting, and Outlook 2007 wouldn't run at all because "another application is set up as the default e-mail application. Please run Outlook and select it as the default e-mail application" (or words to that effect), though of course I couldn't do as it instructed because it would immediately close after displaying that error message.
I tried every suggestion in this thread and then some. When I gave up on 03 I uninstalled it and reinstalled 07, but it wouldn't access my imapi accounts because of some permissions problem. Now I'm downloading the newer version of 07 (I was running beta 1) to see if it gives me the same thing.
