Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 - moving the data file.

Hi,

A while back on my old PC I had a 40GB hard drive. I got a 200GB external eventually for backups and I needed the space as the 40GB drive had very little space left. So I changed the place of 'My Documents' to my external to save space.

Now with my new PC my main drive is 200GB but My Documents is still on my external but I now want it on my main drive.

I copied all the files to the correct place & set My Documents to point there - that's all fine.

Anyway, I just wondered if there was any way to tell Outlook to read my personal folder data file from the new place instead of reading it from my external still? Is there some way I can just change the path and then restart Outlook and it'll work? Or some easy way that won't require me to re-setup all my rules etc?

Thanks,
Craig.

in outlook, click file, Data Management... you should see you new data file, just add your old one, and remove the newly created one, or just point the new one to where your old data file is stored in the settings option

and that should be it

Can't seem to change it from there.

I managed to do it like this which seems to have worked well:

File > Open > Outlook data file > Opened it from it's new location > Tools > Email accounts > Next > Select the new personal folders from the drop-down list > Finish > Close old personal folders section on left.

It's working well now, although I had to go through my rules and re-tell each one which folder to go to - atleast I didn't have to completley re-do them all :)

Thanks,
Craig.
