Hi everyone,

I need to get my hands on a newer version of MS Office and can't quite find the version I need. I don't want to use the subscription versions. Now, with older versions if you bought a copy it'd allow you to install it on both a desktop and a laptop which is what I need, but the only full price version of Office 2016 I can find (Office Home & Student 2016) specifies one machine only.

Have they done away with 2-machine licences?

Office 365 is the subscription model and with that you can have multiple installs. I have not been able to find any multiple install versions of the non-subscription version myself since Office 2010. It seems that Microsoft have moved away from that to try and push Office 365.

7.99 a month for installation of upto 5 family pc's, then all tablets/phones etc. Plus 1TB of one drive space each.

Seems decent value to me.

Well, realistically I'm only going to use it on 2 machines, and I wouldn't use the 1TB of space. 2 Years of that subscription is enough for 2 permanent copies of Office, and seeing as I haven't seen the point in upgrading since Office 2007 I'd say I'll be using them for a lot more than 2 years. Granted, the subscription comes with a whole load of other programs like Publisher, but those are things I wouldn't use either.

I've just discovered that I can get a single-machine copy for significantly less than the usual price through work, so that makes the subscription seem even less appealing to me.

If that's the same deal I see then I think it gives a licence for 2 installs for around £11.

I have a copy of 2015 through the Home Use Program and it has no subscription. Worth checking for anyone who works for a larger company. It in only £9.95 as well.
