Microsoft scraps Windows 7 'E' version for Europe

er, maybe it does actually work if you have a supported tv card. :D

i'm guessing yours is not media center compatible (or doesn't have upto date drivers. check the manufacturers website). :)

Even if I did have a tv card I don't have any terrestial ariel to watch channels on. In fact all Belgian channels are through cable TV which requires it's own decoder. :p

Eh? You've lost me.

I'm fully aware that technically, Apple are in the wrong (although don't they have a link to Opera or something in OSX? Just something I heard, not stating it as fact) but the market share Apple holds in the OS market isn't significant enough to influence the browser "market" (how on earth the browsers make their money, I have no idea!), hence why they aren't being included in this ruling. That IS the reason. Whether I agree with it or not is another matter.

I personally think Apple are very anti-competitive but that's OT.

What gets me is that Apple bundle far more programs with their OS and if microsoft try and do the same they get fined massively for it!

I'm just waiting for the EU to decide that the file explorer in 7 is too embedded and needs to be removed from it to give third parties a chance... (IE is an integral part of modern PC's, just as important as a file explorer IMO.)

This has been explained many times in many of the thousands of 7 threads that seem to open up daily. In short, Apple don't have the majority share/monopoly in the market, therefore they can get away with anything.

on microsoft site it still says Windows 7 E .

has it been accepted they can ship windows 7 with IE??

cos EU still hasnt decide yet as it still review after Microoft gave them update info so - no result yet.. have to wait until EU decide which one accept or reject for Microsoft to dump "E"

Google's name alone has a lot of sway.

I remember seeing some vox pop video where people on the street were asked which browser they use. A lot of them apparently think "Google" is their browser.

This is a very good point. I can see Chrome's market share rising fast.

So does this mean the EU have helped to make the worlds largest search provider the owner of possibly the most used web browser !

Look like as EU agreed with MS to dump "E" for Europe and put ballot box in all Windows 7 as I noticed Amazon removed "E" but still same price for the full version. MS promised to stay the full version at upgrade price until end of 2009 before it go up to over £200 for the full version and cheaper for upgrade version plus OEM version as well
