Microsoft Security Client Error code: 0x80073b01

I have tried everything I can think of to get this sorted like system restore, Spybot Search and Destroy in safe mode, deleting Microsoft Security Essentials and reinstalling with neither working.

Please help.

Did MSE work before getting the error?

When you uninstall it do you make sure all folders and registry keys have been deleted first before restarting your PC?

Yes it worked before the error. Registry keys and folders would I find them in "uninstall or change a program?

Folder should be in something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client.

Reg keys (start<run<"regedit") should in be:

hkey_local_machine< software< microsoft< microsoft security client

There might be reg keys in other locations which may need deleting as well. Sometimes uninstalling software doesn't remove all the files that were installed.

I just deleted the lot and started from scratch as I can't be arsed with the hassle. Thank for trying to help me though.

Had this recently as well its a real pig to fix caused by a nasty java based virus which prevents you removing or reinstalling any AV software took me ages to fix.

Then go here & run the fixits if you can to repair your registry.
