i have been in the beta test team for months on this and i have to say its ran great, i havent had to send a bug/fault report in yet.
it just gets on with its job

She isn't computer savvy, although she wants a laptop (more on that later).

Most likely Windows 7. Would Security Essentials be enough to keep her safe? She does online banking and safe internet.

would SE work with a basic laptop license (premium or starter I think).

Going on from this it'll be fine but I'd combine it with Malwarebytes also. Both together will find anything bad.

It is all about what you like really.

I've tried Avira, Avast, Avg, kaspersky & nod32.

I found MSE to be the leanest, none intrusive AV out of them all & it works just as well as all those.

Avast is good though, so it all depends what you want from your AV really.
