Sorry if I'm not being too bright but does anyone know how to set the macros up?

go to keyboard propertes in control panel. select key settings tab & you can then set the up in there

When I do that it automatically sends me to the Logitech SetPoint settings, possibly because I have a Logitech MX518 gaming mouse, do I have to unstall the Logitech software and just use it from Windows?

Yep, uninstall the logtec software & install the MS software from here
