Hi guys, anyone use this, whats it like? I'm currently looking into a new backup solution and this seems like it ticks all the boxes.

Used this briefly to back up our exchange pilot while we upgraded out main backup solution CommVault.

Personally I found it a hastle to do backups and restores for Exchange, don't know how it would be for anything else.

CommVault V8 is works great for us (Currently backing up around 200 machines).

NO!!! I have been dealing with this product for 18 months now. It has a LOT of issues especially if you do lots of tape backups and like keeping your tapes in order (don't get me started). Main issue is as a charity we get a HUGE discount from MS, and so the cost of any other product just can't compete.

Feel free to ask questions, but i can't list all the issues i've had at the moment (i guess i have all weekend though)

well I have around 20 servers I need to sort out centrilized backup including several sql boxes, dc,s, exchange etc. we are a 100% windows enviroment.

was looking at it in a Disk to Disk to Tape Solution. probably attach a dell tape library of some sort.

total data to back up is around 1 TB

We also have a large VL discount. To be fair I've not really looked into it because it's not my job so I'm not sure of costings really. However, with SQL Server, provided there aren't many large databases, it's not all that difficult to back up using a script.

The one that really concerns me is Exchange. Was so dissappointed MS didn't include backup in Ex 07. I hear it's coming with SP2 though.

DPM 2007 is the software backing up the NHS's new email system.

I've got it installed in my virtual environment and disk to disk seems fine, I'm no expert though and not been able to try disk to tape.

There are advantages to the end user too. It can be set up so they can retrieve files themselves instead of getting onto the phone to you every 5 mins ;)

And although i did come down hard in my first post, Disk to disk backup is pretty good tbh. I think a few versions down the line this will be a very good product.

The tape side of things was just introduced in v3, and it's pretty basic very inflexible, and sometime just plain bad.
