Microsoft TechNet being retired

I just received an email on the subject. I must say, I find it very surprising news. I'm also glad I didn't renew my subscription for next year, as it sounds like it would have been a waste of money. I wonder why they've made the decision to close Technet, I would have thought it makes them a fair amount of money.
