Microsoft to buy epic?

Hope not, if they make a UT series game in the future it will proberbly a really bad Xbox360 port, its kind of annoying hearing all these rumours of m$ planning on buying everything, what they trying to do rule the world? :\

epic, yahoo, even AOL I heard, were they also trying to buy out google?

I don't really see what epic would have to gain by being bought by Microsoft, apart from a large lump sum anyway. They would have too much to lose assuming Microsoft would stop them releasing games on the PS3 and eventually stop them supporting their middleware on non MS platforms.

I can't read the article (not loading here), but from what I've heard, this is all just a rumour built up from some GamePro editor's "wouldn't it be interesting if..." hypothesis, and has no actual basis in reality.

It would take a lot to tempt Epic away from working on the PS3. They've dedicated a lot fo time to porting the UT3 engine, and it would be foolish to give up on any potential profits from that now.

Get used to it. When companies get the size of MS and Google it is cheaper, easier and more convenient to buy in tech and other companies than to develop it in house. I heard one reason MS tried to buy Yahoo was for it's talent and i assume that is hardest part about developing games, finding talent. So it would not surprise is MS did buy small game software houses

Bah, they can have em as far as i'm concerned, they haven't made a good game since unreal tournament!

(in my opinion)
Maybe they don't make that many games but their real power in the industry comes from their engines. Unreal tech is a massive thing and I'm willing to bet there's been at least one game you've liked that uses either UE2 or UE3. Being owned by Microsoft could cripple them because then they'd have to answer to them every time someone wants to license their tech. That's basically what happened to Criterion's Renderware when EA bought them out. Renderware used to be a very widely used piece of middleware. The GTA games for example used Renderware as did loads of other high profile games. Now I'm not sure Renderware even exists.
