Do you want me to reproduce the extremely long list of Windows security issues in comparison with the few that Mac OS X has? ;)

Yes, along with a comparison of installed user base.

That would be lovely, and very interesting ;)

Didn't ford build the first car?

Its hard to define the first car but stuff like the Benz Motorwagen preceded Ford's stuff

So hang on why aren't we all driving Benz's around then, you don't mean somebody else copied the idea and improved on it

Somebody "ripped off" their idea, disgusting ;)

Yeah and those new cars crash all the time ;)

No one person is attributed to the invention of the car and if you think about it, the car is nothing more than a cart with a different power source. Here is an interseting link, there are many other, but one thing for sure is that Henry Ford, with Microsoft following on in such a great tradition, just took an existing idea and gave it to the masses. For that both organisations should be given some credit.

Whilst on the car theme, one analogy that is intersesting when comparing the apparent small (yet ever growing) market share that Apple has of the computer market is that in comparison with the automobile market Apple hold a bigger share of the computer market than both BMW and Mercedes put together do of the car market.

Interesting!

I'm not microsoft bashing as such. But in very few other industries does any one company have such a monopoly. They would struggle to screw up with innovation but instead don't. Thats not to say lots of other companies don't just steal stuff too.

Its not even so much about stealing stuff because every one does it. Its the fact they are ALWAYS playing catchup, and with lots of things they just don't do very well because of it.

Ah, well, meh.

As for buying white peices of kit cos its "cool"

Mines grey, and I bought it cos it works, every single god dam time.

Atleast when apple copy stuff they make it work... :p

Not had windows XP crash on me running 4 computers 24/7 since 2001.

XP is a very stable OS. I would go as far as to say I have had 30x more OS crashes on my Mac Mini than OS crashes in 5 years on windows. I have had the mini running for about 100 hours.

So a senior researcher at an IT security firm finds a possible vulnerability in the wireless drivers, then goes on to admit that he was using third party drivers at the time. Apple decide to carry out an internal audit of the wireless driver anyway, find two possible buffer overflow vulnerabilities and release patches for these vulnerabilities within six weeks of the original claim, without any known exploitations out in the wild?

What's not to like about that? Every piece of software is going to have vulnerabilities of some sort; it is how the developers deal with the vulnerabilities which matters.

Has it actually ever invented anything as such?

I'm reasonably sure it didn't invent dos...
If you are classifying operating systems as 'inventions' then surely Windows XP is an 'invention'.

is it just me or has microsoft gone from a company that creates its own ideas to a company that just blatantly steals other companys ideas and just chucks billions at it till it gets it right ??
Whats the problem with that? Are you complaining about a wealthy company using its vast money reserves in order to compete with other companies? Are big companies supposed to be able to compete by spending less than companies that have a first to market advantage?
