Microsoft to will increase focus on PC gaming

A standard place for them to install to would be nice. At the moment some install just to the C drive, some in program files, some are grouped by publisher or developer, some have their own directory, etc, etc. It would be good to have a My Games folder where all game files are installed to.

Don't forget games that store settings/save files in My Documents (BF2/Sid Meier's Pirates!) or those hidden in user profiles (like NFSMW).

I have made my own standard area for installation. It is called, surprisingly enough, "Games", in my system drive.

The last thing I want is installs which don't ask me questions such as where I want my game. Presets are the first step to getting on my nerves. I like to know what is happening.

But you aren't the average user. I'm not saying you shouldn't have an option but it would be good if they installed to a standard place by default. It would make it simpler for your average joe who wouldn't think to install everything to the same place. This would also simplify installing mods and extra content because there is a standard place for games to be across most people's computers.

Also if it was done that way you could redirect your My Games folder to a different partition if you wish. It's already possible for My Documents to point to a seperate partition.

These are subtle things that can be done to increase the popularity of PC games. They don't really affect people like you and me because we already know what we're doing. Most people don't.
