Microsoft Train Simulator Problems

I'm having trouble running MSTS on my computer. When i click play the screen goes black but then everything just freezes up. If its left for a few minutes, the computer eventually BSOD's on me. Anyone out there able to help me get this game running? Thanks

My system is

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ Dual Core
1GB RAM
160GB HDD
256MB GeForce 6800GS

Could the dual core processor be causing the trouble because the game is quite old and might be falling over with 2 cores? I'm just stumped.

Thanks for your help. Turns out it was my graphics card messing it all up. Installed the latest nVidia drivers and its now running fine. Frame rate is as smooth as a babies backside Well, it is 5 years old but still really good with all the addons and mods.
