For American readers, know this: British retailer Woolworths are done for. They close up shop today. But out in Woolworths warehouses across Britain are tons of Xbox 360 consoles. And Microsoft want them back.

To that effect, they're preparing to sue Deloitte, the administrators of Woolworths' rotting corpse. See, as an administrator, Deloitte would be expecting to make a quick buck selling off Woolworths remaining stock at crazy prices. Including 360 consoles.

To stop this from happening, Microsoft are going to argue that, under Britain's "retention of title" rules, because Woolworths are on their way out and either haven't paid for the consoles or owe Microsoft money, they can seize back the consoles.

Should be a good to-and-fro!

sounds made up.

MS and sony make $$$ from games they sell not consoles.

1000s more consoles hitting the market should make MS very happy.

Well obviously they don't want a host of low priced xboxes flooding the market undercutting them and other retailers, bad for business!

Yeah, it's hardly Microsoft's fault that a bunch of 360s has gone down the void due to bad management and shoddy retailing practices (good riddance Woolworth's). They should have the consoles back.

Cant see it happening, all woolies top stock was never for sale to joe bloggs.

How many people went to get a cheap console or TV. What did they have. Stock like that would have been returned or sold to a wholsaler or some one like that. Bulk buy.

Unfortunately that is banded about every console war.. "how expensive is this.. ZOMG LOSSEZ 4 U!!"

Fact is, manufacturing and production techniques improve such that that they soon start to make money on each console. I would assume that Microsoft have been making money, albeit probably only a small profit margin, on their consoles for some time. If you are Nintendo you hit on a niche with the ability to use old technology and its a profit hunters wet dream.

Well I saw the local woolies staff down my road all shutting up shop and leaving with that Wii rockband guitar pack thing last night as I walked home so I wouldn't be surprised.

I guess we can talk about Woollies now that they are no longer a competitor :D

Woolworths!
Woolworths!
Woolworths!
Woolworths!
Woolworths!
Woolworths!

damn, that felt good :p
