*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I;'ve got Windows 11 dev build on my laptop to see how it goes and if it's worth using. As I just remote into my desktop and use that mostly. Still hoping for start menu changes.

My wife uses my old laptop as a guest/2nd user. I still wanted to retain my basic profile as a work back-up if necessary.

Am I correct in thinking I`d need to install 11 on my profile as admin`, and she would then be using it on her profile.

*facepalm*

What is wrong with people at MS that they get that excited about a new icon and not even a good one at that...

Heads up, StartAllBack's latest beta adds dark theme to dialogue boxes and control panel. This is likely the start of something cool and once Task Manager gets the same treatment I will update my version!

Interesting bug for me. The start menu does not list all of my installed programmes. Key missing are all of the office suite (I can open them by finding an appropriate file type in my documents), remote desktop software, affinity photo and likely others I cannot remember.

Been using it since release and its been solid, prefer it over windows 10. Only gripe i have is no clock on second monitor.

Did they update Windows 11 to now allow "Never Combine taskbar buttons" as in Windows 10?

A lot of people were complaining about this some time ago and i was wondering if they've fixed it. :)

Figured as much, Guess I still wont be "Upgrading" till they do.

For the past several years Windows has received two feature updates per year, so you're looking at an update around May at the earliest for any changes to how the taskbar buttons currently work. The second update comes around October. They don't generally make UI/functionality changes outside of these two releases.

I wasn’t sure about windows 11 at first, but I decided to install windows 10 recently and it looked and felt really “old”.

I can’t put my finger on it…

I've always found that with 10, the UI is so flat and monotonous without very good design - having multiple OSes booted up alongside it most days I just find it such an eye sore and looks and feels so dated to use.

11 was a step in the right direction in that respect but typical of MS they've not capitalised on the strengths and made a real effort to eliminate the weaknesses.

Trying to install win 11 home without network connection, however cant get past the wifi update screen.

Shift F10/ alt f4 not giving any joy as mentioned on websites for workarounds... any ideas ? What's the latest way round this install screen?
