Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with a problem I have recently started experiencing with my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse model number 1023.

If I plug in the USB receiver, sometimes the green light shows, and the mouse works properly for maybe 2 mins max before the curser does not move again.

Sometimes the green light doesnt come on, and a Windows XP message tells me that the USB device is not recognised. I sometimes have to unplug / plug back in the USB receiver many times to get a connection - which then drops after 2mins or less again.


I've tried connecting the receiver to different USB ports to verify its not the port thats causing the problems. - No luck.

Any ideas? Cheers

**EDIT** Forgot to mention I have changed the batteries several times to check if this makes a difference
 
I've since emailed the returns department of a competitor, and they have asked me to directly contact Microsoft.

Has anyone any experience with Microsoft Tech support lines? Whats all this they mention on the website about 2 free email or phone calls then charged?
