Hi, I'm writing a technical document and unfortunately I can't write it in Latex.

I have 10 chapters in my document. I want to match equation numbers and caption numbers according to my chapter number. I also have subchapters. Like this:

Chapter 1.
Figure 1.1
Figure 1.2
Figure 1.etc
Equation 1.1
Equation 1.2
Equation 1.etc
Subchapter 1.1
Subchapter 1.2
Subchapter 1.etc

Chapter 2.
Figure 2.1
Figure 2.2
Figure 2.etc
Equation 2.1
Equation 2.2
Equation 2.etc
Subchapter 2.1
Subchapter 2.2
Subchapter 2.etc

...

Chapter 10.
Figure 10.1
Figure 10.2
Figure 10.etc
Equation 10.1
Equation 10.2
Equation 10.etc
Subchapter 10.1
Subchapter 10.2
Subchapter 10.etc

So far this is proving very difficult to set up. Can somebody please give me a step by step tutorial on how to do this? I've searched the internet for a solution, however I haven't been able to find an answer.

Thank you

Ugh styles.

What version of word are you using?

First and foremost you want to actually create the styles (i.e. font/weight/etc):

Chapter
Figure
Equation
Subchapter

Once you've done that, you can create a new multilevel list using them in the order you want - from here, you can also change the numbering options so that the numbering will follow on and where it will follow on from.

This seems to cover 2007/2010
