does anyone know how to get the page number to be displayed in a Text Box?

ehm... draw a rectangle around your page number? Set the fill colour to white, move it to the back.

Assuming you want a page number in the same (unusual) place on every page, one easy way to do it is to go into the header (or footer) as you would do if you were having a page number at the top of bottom, then add the page number, select it and insert => textbox, then drag it where you want it to go.
