Microsoft works / Open Office

Hi guys, a friend of mine has just bought a PC for his Son to use for school.He uses a lot of spreadsheets for various things.The thing is,this new PC`s not got Works installed,instead it`s got this "Open Office" software,he`s tearing his hair out because his Son can`t open the spreadsheets he saved as "works" spreadsheets.They`re showing up as WKS files but Open Office won`t open them.Does anyone know if it`s possible to convert them so he can open them with this Open Office thing!.He`s on XP Home SP2 by the way.I`m lost!,building Systems! no probs,Spreadsheets! no damn idea :rolleyes:

I haven't tried this but if you go to - tools/options, expand load/save, select Microsoft office, select from list Load/save what you want.

If you scroll down to the bottom of that massive list you can see it will convert .wks to .doc, which is readable by OpenOffice.
