Microsoft Worldwide Telescope

Nice to see it's Mac compatible (Requires XP and BootCamp apparently!).

Might have a word with Trading Standards over that...

linux is free, looks sexy and there are no restrictions
windows is 60 pound +, restrictive and not to mention vunerable to viruses

Typical MS product. Doesn't even integrate with IE to detect proxy settings and therefore cannot self-connect to the internet. Even Google Earth does that seemlessly.

Edit: I can't find an option in the application to put proxy information in, either. :(

Well this probably belongs better in the OS section, but this debate has been done to death.

There is actually a comparison chart on vulnerabilities between Vista and various Linux build, in the first year of life Vista not only had less security risks, but the ones it did have more of them were patched (percent wise) than Linux.

Not saying Linux is bad - I always think open source stuff is good. But this whole "windows isn't secure" thing is becoming less and less true. And 60 for an OS that will last you for years, (if you purchased XP when it was released it is still perfectly able to be run now - years after its first release).

More people target windows, but with the reworked network stack, new levels of security in Vista and the UAC it is becoming less of a problem - still more work to do though for them - but then no company can ever say there isn't room for improvment.

LInux is nice, but for most users it isn't practical, games do not work, support is limited if you do graphic work for example (which I do).

Either way, we are nudging the thread off topic.

Similar to stellarium according to the BBC. Going to give it a whirl now.

Is it a pain in the butt ? yes, but the phone call is free and only takes a few moments.

Which is exactly why some people like linux like I said. No hassle with that activation crap.

Not legally.

Depends how old you are and whether eulas can be classed as legally binding. But that wasn't the question he asked. ;)

Shall we not discuss this in this thread gents? Its for the Microsoft Worldwide Telescope and not a discussion of the legalities of installing Mac OS on a PC. :)

Ha typical derailment of OS bashing same old story then, have used it a few times but the images seem very out of focus, nice app :)
