I get this message every time I try and launch Zune after downloading it to use for my Windows phone.

After some searching on the web, I have tried the following..

1) uninstalling then reinstalling
2) Delete >NET framework files and downloading latest version
3) Running Zune as administrator
4) Using a MS Fixit tool and Zune Library reset tool

Nothing works, I wondered if anyone else has had this issue and were able to resolve it.

I am running Windows 7.

Thanks

Boss had a similar issue when he insisted on getting a Windows 7 phone following his already installed software from his actual Zune on Vista. I had to completely uninstall the Zune software (Program Files, Common Files, App Data in User folder *This is in your user and public user folder*), also had to delete the registry keys for the Zune connector.

Only after a complete reinstall did it actually work with the phone. You do not use the Zune software for another device (say Zune or another Windows Phone) per chance?

Thanks for the reply. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Haven't done anything with the registry as I dont know much about that.

I have never used Zune before, thus is my first time trying to use it. Getting quite frustrated by it tbh.

The uninstaller provided with Zune is rubbish, I still had parts of Zune still running after uninstall. I recommend you Check Program Files\Common Files and your AppData folder in your profiles just to be sure. Check the Zune folders are gone after you uninstall everything.

Could you check the system log to see why it's hanging at all, it should tell you why it's failing in there. Does it generate a crashdump or crashlog? If so you post it here.

Hi, where can I check the system log? And if it does generate a crashlog, where would that go?

What I did notice is when it crashes and it says "Microsoft is looking for solutions, it never finds any but says more info can be obtained in C\xxxx. The file extension I think one I dont recognise (im at work so cant check) but is something like htmn or hmpm (something like that).

But due to the extension, I cant open the file to see what it says.

I'll confirm the extension when I get home

I got it sorted by installing on my old Windows XP machine. The install seemed to have more steps and asked for a restart, where as my Windows 7 PC didnt do that.

It almost looks like its been installed on my Windows 7 pc but hasnt really.

Happy I got it installed my other PC but not on the one I wanted it on...

Hmm sounds wierd, did you check your App Data folder in local, locallow, roaming just to verify you removed all the local zune app data?

You could try copying and pasting the XP install to your other computer? See if it works for you.

The crash logs should be in your profile folder and in the software event log.

Do you have error reporting service running?

Definitely dont have any Zune stuff in any of the App Data folders.

Where would my profile folder and software event log be found? I think I have error reporting on.

I might try and copy my install onto my Windows 7 PC. Is that a case of just copying the Zune folder? Would anything else be needed?

You can get at the error logs through event viewer. Start > Run (or search) > eventvwr.msc - it should be under application.

When Zune crashes it should ask you to produce an error log, you can view the log (or should be able to). Normally it will ask you to send the error to Microsoft but you can also view the error. You can copy and paste it here too.

Same problem here. I've deleted and reinstalled Zune 3 times. Last time was after restoring the computer to before I'd even heard of Zune. This time I copied the error messages. Anyone help?

I got Zune working on my Windows 7 pc by reinstalling windows.
I had a similar issue with MSE and a reinstall of Windows 7 fixed that too
