Microwave kills my Internet

Well, he did say that the router is at one end of the house and the PC at the other... I would assume he's heard of ethernet cable and decided it wasn't appropriate.

Wrap your microwave in steel mesh and ground it. Might work :D Faraday cages will stop a 2.4Ghz signal, if you wrap all but the front it should be attenuated enough to let your wireless live.

Disclaimer: I've not tested this. I'm just going to assume it'll work.

Yes, I know. I might have previously tried it, then again I might not have.

T&Cs say I can't, so I won't.

If only I had a £1 for every time I mention Sky and someone immediately suggest I should chuck away their router. ;)

I don't think they care tbh, I mean I currently use the supplied router but thats just for my parents and I'm cabled so I couldn't give a **** :p but my friend who changed the router his internet went up 1mbps faster. Not sure if thats just coincidence or what but his main reason was the extra features of the new router.

Yeah, I do the same now, although tend to find 5 ghz is slightly weaker.

It is. Travels less distance and is more easily blocked by thick walls. When you live in an old house with thick brick and stone walls like i do then wifi is a complete pain in the backside.

That's why I wire rooms that need it. Wireless cannot compete with gigabit Ethernet.

I'm running a second router as a 5Ghz AP. Not allowed to replace the main router as I'm with Sky, so combined it works well.

The crappy router supplied by Virgin Media thankfully can be out in Modem Mode and only used as a cable modem. So I can use my own router and avoid the double NAT problems that using a second router can bring.

Every single router I've been supplied with by an ISP has been ****
