I've been housesitting for a mate and his gf for a while and they're back tomorrow. I figured I'd cook us all a meal as a welcome home, but the oven doesn't work, and there is only a (small) microwave.

And since I'll be moving house now that they're back it also means I need to do this as cheaply as possible.

So any suggestions for a cheap easy microwave meal for 3?

Jacket potatoes with some kind of topping and salad would be best that doesn't taste/look crap. Maybe a choice of toppings, cheese, tuna, beans etc.
Cheap too!

I'm not much of a fan of microwaved jacket spuds tbh. :(

And no, the hobs don't work either... There was a powercut in the night, and then when the leccy came back on the oven wouldn't turn on. No idea what the problem is. Doesn't seem to be a trip switch.

Naans go in the toaster, snapped in half :D
you don't have to get a set meal, just get a few different tubs of curry and a pair of massive naan breads.

making myself hungry now :p

Have you checked it's not just that the timer is flummoxed?

OMG... it's fixed!!!!

I pushed more random buttons on the timer and it's started working. lol :D

haha thanks for the microwave tips though - I'll keep them in mind for next time I have an epic fail. :D

Thanks for the suggestion K.C. Leblanc!

No idea yet, but google seems to suggest it can be done.

Microwave pasta is unlikely to be very nice along with any of these microwave meals. It does not really fit your requirement as a "welcome home" meal.

You seem to be going to a lot of trouble to "cook" this meal yourself to save a few pounds. Just get some fish n' chips or another takeaway.

EDIT: It's working - you/the diners are saved...

I'm not cooking it to save money, I'm cooking it because a home cooked meal would be a nicer welcome home than a takeaway.

I wanted it to be inexpensive yes, but that isn't a priorty.

I wouldn't call pushing a few buttons on a microwave "cooking". A microwave meal is essentially a takeaway that you reheat at home and personally I'd chose a takeaway.

Nevertheless, you have got the oven/hob working so you have many more options and should be able to produce a nice welcome home meal :)

A hot takeaway plated nice and servced with a cold beer is a million million million miles better than any micro-meal.

Sounds like a chellenge to me! A nice 3-course home cooked meal using nothing but a microwave. After I move into my new place I might see what I can come up with. :p

But yeah, so suggestions for an oven cooked meal for three? :D
