I seem to be getting conflicting views and as such wondered if anyone here had upgraded the ram on their mid 2011 mac mini.

I've got the i7 Mac mini with the Radeon GFX and I'm contemplating a RAM upgrade as well as an SSD to speed the little girl up and give it a mid life refresh.

I can see that 8GB is obviously fine (it could be spec'd like that from Apple) but crucial seem to offer a 16GB kit. I often find myself using the page file, so it seems sensible to offer some future proofing and buy once whilst RAM is at a reasonable cost.

On the crucial reviews however one guy says that it only uses 8GB, which seems a bit pointless chucking in another 8GB if it can't see it !?

Curious also if anyone has used this crucial ssd as it looks like a good option to replace this 5400 rpm drive - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-010-CR&tool=3

Wikipedia and the internet in general imply that there was a firmware update that opened up the option for 16gig, so update it to the max and go for it! (£60 isn't that much for too much ram)

I have 2 of those M4's in my 2012 mini, they are excellent replacements for the drive! ;)

Yep Apple recommend 8GB but you can use 16GB. There is an application called Mac Tracker which is the best to see upgrade options for any macs
