I know there will be some objections to this thread as it has been asked before but not for a number of years, so I'm going to ask again.

Also I know 'j....o....b' is not spelt 'f....u....n' and it can't be a barrel of laughs the entire time. Anyway, on to the point.

So, do you enjoy your job, as in you're blissfully happy with it or do you barely tolerate it or somewhere in between?

I'm a bit (a lot) frustrated with mine at the moment, which would probably seem somewhat ungrateful as I'm 'comfortable' and on an above average salary, especially for my region of the UK, although I don't own my own house. Not to dox myself but some would consider it a bit of a 'non-job'. It's a job that should be useful and serve a purpose for an organisation but it is mostly treated as a 'tick box' exercise or something to be endured. When that sort of attitude prevails (from the top of the organisation downwards) then it makes it a bit pointless and therefore doesn't give me much job satisfaction.

I've also been in the same industry for almost 20 years (actual anniversary in a couple of months) and I still have the same job title as when I started. Teams in this role tend to be fairly small (5ish people in my last few roles) and it has a 'flat' organisational structure so not much opportunity for progression. I have been given opportunities to apply for progression but it has never seemed the right time for one reason or another (mostly to do with wanting to move on anyway at that time).

Anyway, I suppose the question is should I just continue to tolerate what I no longer enjoy (and probably honestly don't perform as well as I once did) in order to continue a comfortable lifestyle or do I jack it all in and find another path that I actually like? How do you feel about your work too? Any anecdotes would help to put things in perspective and if you've changed careers that would also be interesting to hear about.

You’ve given a very good account for why you should look for something different. It sounds awful to be honest and I was stuck in something that sounds similar for a few years.
Thanks, I realised it was turning into a bit of a vent halfway through composing it but just went with it. There's other stuff I could have included too. I do feel the need to move on but need to identify the 'to what' which is tricky.

Really enjoy mine. Actually prefer the weekdays to the weekends as that's when I can be at work. Had to use all my holiday up at Christmas as I hadn't taken any as I didn't want to during the year. I'm definitely at the best place I've ever worked. Not a single complaint.
Do you work for Playboy? :D
