Mid Range Gaming Rig Spec

I was wondering what a mid range gaming rig will cost me for my son. I don't need a case as he can use my Antec 1200 and he does not need a monitor.

Can you lovely people help spec me something that will play the latest titles?

I think the monitor is 1600 x 1050 but we will upgrade. I'm actually wondering if its worth doing this on the cheap or not. He could probably have the system in my sig minus the drives and GFX card and drives and I could upgrade.

Your spec in sig still looks good and there are better Graphics cards out there than the 6950 for £200 ;)

Say you give him your current rig minus just the drives what budget are we talking about for your new rig?
 
I got no idea. I don't want to spend a fortune. I just bought a Cosmos 2 so I have a case for it to go in. Basically anything as good as what i have now and I will be happy.
 
 
You would be able to get the i5 running at 4.4/4.5 easily enough, I guess it would outperform it fairly well. i7's are mostly overkill for gaming and HT can harm game play.

I take it his PC already has a PSU, HDD and CD-ROM drive that he could just move inside to your current PC when you give him the CPU, MOBO, RAM and GPU? so you both keep all your files and the basic's the same so you can spend more on even better parts?

You could reuse your Corsair TX 750 when you upgrade and keep it in your CM Cosmos 2 :)
