mid tower for x99 ???

If you're thinking investment and value, DDR4 will eventually crash in price when it is made more affordable (this will be be fairly soon) so jumping on the X99 wagon now, will lose you money in the next coming months.

The Corsair 540 will hold 2 HDD's in the bottom and if you use a HDD 5.25" adapater you can fit another 2 (assuming no disk drive) in the HDD cage. SSD's can be stuck anywhere, mine cable tied next to the HDD.

Is your PC for gaming or do you do video editing/3d modelling as your Z97 is already high spec.

I have a Corsair Carbide 540 case and have just upgraded to an X99. The case has a 2.5” drive cage in the back, think it can hold 4 2.5” drives and the 2 3.5” drives at the front. You could also use the 2 5.25” slots to add extra drives, Its a good case.
