Middle button scroll on Ubuntu?

I'v just installed Ubuntu on my IBM X31 laptop, everything works great except for the middle button should scroll when held down and the trackpad moved up and down, is there a simple way to get it to work?

edit and also the back and forward buttons on my keyboard don't work.

I have the same problem on my TP Z60M with Dapper.
Never really followed it up. Its the middle scroll thats the big'en for me, as i dont bother with the FW/BK buttons, as i can do those functions within Opera quite easyily with a mouse button combination.
