Middle clicking

On laptops how do u middle click? As in to close a tab or such in firefox?

My friend says that you push both mouse buttons simultaneously, or tap the pad with two fingers at once. However neither of these solutions seem to be working for me. Just wondered if anyone knew the solution.

It's a fijitsu-siemens pi5215 by the way.

The pointer software on my laptop allows me to set up zones on the touch pad to do different things, I have the top left corner set as middle click so when i hit that area it acts as a middle button

Thanks, how do you activate this. I can't find any mouse settings except the basic windows ones.
