Installed Cubase Studio 4 yesterday and everything's fine except I can't playback/hear midi from Cubase. Have looked in the Audio MIDI setup app in utilities but that seems to be fine.

Is there something obvious I'm missing? The only progress I've made is making the audio bars show movement when a midi track is played/a note pressed from the virtual keyboard.

If the channel strips are illuminating and you can't hear output then it points to a badly mapped output somewhere.

Are the settings in Cubase right?

A screenshot of the app would be ideal :)

Will get back to you tomorrow regarding the screenshot - am currently not on Mac!

The output is set to go to the IAC driver, the only option that I have.

Image of midi devices I currently have, none of them output sound but you can see the green indicator shows that sound is trying to play.

The IAC driver is an internal loopback device - not needed for what you're doing, and it won't be hooked up to anything, hence why you're not getting any sound.

You need to either send the output to a device which is connected (external or internal).

As a quick example - pull up the VST instruments panel by pressing F11 (off the top of my head). In one of the empty banks, click and add a synth (not a drum machine though!). Once you've got a synth (HalionOne for example), make sure you have a patch selected (Piano, strings etc).

Now - go to your midi track. Click Output, and you'll now see the name of the synth you just created. Select that synth and away you go. :P
