midline hernia with rowing machine

I can't find any information on the net about this, so perhaps somebody here might know something...

I have a "midline hernia", which the NHS has refused to fix (no funds), but I am interested in strengthening up my stomach muscles, etc by using a rowing machine and I'm wondering if doing so would have a good chance to aggravate my midline hernia?

Midline hernia or perhaps better known as "hiatus hernia" (lower chest area) and I am not looking for medical advice, just wanted to know if anybody else has used a rowing machine while having a hiatus hernia; (I have had it for several years, so I know all about the problem).
