I'm popping to an oem supplier round the corner from me tomorrow and I might take the opportunity to pick up vista OEM.

I think the version that most likely suits me is home premium 64 but [sods law] they don't sell that [/sods law] they do however sell:

home premium 32 oem
business 64

now am i right in thinking 32 bit is a bad idea due to memory limitations? Plus the fact I have 64 bit capable hardware so I might as well?

Also am I right in thinking the difference between home and business is that home has media rubbish that I would immediately ignore by using itunes and not connecting it up to a tv? (plus I don't have a dvd collection, once I've seen a film once thats enough for me) and business has extra networking features which I'm also unlikely to use?

The main draw with xp pro for me was remote desktop which I used as a rather funky excuse for a kvm with 2nd pcs when I've had them.

So, do I go with vista business 64? or home premium 32? or wait and pick up home premium 64 when I come across it?

why dont you go for vista ultimate.. if your going OEM ultimate is pretty good price (relative to other m$ stuff) Ultimate is basically both Buisness and Home Premium combined - why bother getting either OS when you could have every feature in ultimate.

As far as 32 or 64bit... this depends on how long youll be keeping your system and how much memory you have installed or want to.

I personaly use Vista Ultimate 64 on both my home systems - i bougth the first for memory usage - as i install my system at work for a few months sometimes.
I used vista Ultimate 64 for my Media center box.. because i already had it on my workstation.. and it ran perfectly (barring the slow copy issue so many folks have)
Only thing to note.. if youve never used a 64bit OS before .. be prepared for things not to work. check seriously for every item of hardware for compatibility issues - my latest compat issue which i didnt think of at the time - was my media center remote doesnt have a signed driver yet.. so doesnt work.
Nvidias gfx card support also Seriously sucks, as does thier motherboard driver support.

Atleast if you go 32 bit you should have a better chance of regular driver updates (betas).

If you dont mind a few headaches for a more stable OS go with 64bit.. otherwise 32bit all the way ;)

P.s if money is the issue why not to get Utimate - I would personaly wait for Home Premium 64 if its not currently in stock.

vista ultimate as only about 4 things extra. i would personly say go for vista home premium.. u can download the 4 extra things thats in vista ultimate by using 3rd party programs

i bottled it, not sure why lol.

tbh xp is working fine for me and like I said my gut instinct is to go with home premium 64 which they don't sell anyway but I will be setting up a remote pc soon too so maybe business was the way to go...

anyway, it can wait.
