Might look into getting a new web hosting service, which one?

Hey everyone

I'm currently with streamline.net, I am on the basic package and I wanted to get myself a blog on my site, problem is the basic package doesn't enable MySQL databases.

So before I go and add an extra package I was wondering if anyone recommends I change host?

Ideally to something that would include cPanel and phpMyAdmin and still give me everything I need without me having to do too much changing. I'm very new to all this still so like the way streamline.net provide an easy to use hosting service but they do seem to limit things a lot and that I'm not too keen on.

Also maybe have the ability to make sub domains??

Any suggestions would be great, many thanks

p.s. I'm a student so money is a bit of an issue :-D lol I want everything for nothing

I got the basic package from TSOhost a couple of months ago, with a 20% discount code it cost me £12 for 1-year which is an absolute bargain and perfect for what I wanted, but the code seems to have expired now so I think it's £15: 500MB disk space, 2GB/month bandwidth, 3 databases which is enough for me.
If you pay a little bit more, you can get much more bandwidth with other companies, but I wanted to outlay as little as possible to see how I go really. Their (tso) more expensive packages are not really as economical as others, vidahost is another I looked at, it costs more, but you get lots more bandwidth.

Have a read on these forums:

I believe a member of OCUK runs TSOhost, and another (ex?) member runs register1, lots of members use them so they are always recommended, and ocuk host review also gives good feedback.
I've not had any problems with tsohost yet, just a few minutes of downtime over the past month, probably a total of 4 or 5 mins (that I've noticed) since I joined a couple of months ago.

Just looked at streamline, if you're going for the £31.99/£23.99 then you're getting more disk space and (unlimited) bandwidth, so if you are using over 2GB/month, that's probably gonna be better for you. If you use under 2GB and want to save a few quid, then it might be worth moving/downgrading.

Sorry my mistake I didn't spot the sticky.

Just out of interest what do people think of this service? http://www.vurta.com/
I noticed its not on the review site its just a friend works for that company and was wonderin what people thought of the packages?

I think you should be careful with any company that doesn't have things like a contact address or a phone number on their website, as well as using a WHOIS privacy protect service on their domain.

That's a good point, you literally have no way of knowing who you're dealing with, they don't even provide an email address, only a web form.

edit: if you're friend works there, then it's not so bad.

Only problem with register1's package is it doesn't give me wordpress blog tool on the £49 package which is something I'm lookin into gettin, plus my current site uses php including a php script to send e-mail which I'm not sure that that package will include?

I think Ill probs try out TSOhost - one thing though, I have my domain hosted with streamline.net how do I transfer the domain name to TSOhost??

And just to finally check, TSOhost will be good for adding subdomains, blogs adding a wall for comments on pages (Considering adding this not definate)??

Thanks for all your help guys

If you get a webhost with PHP and SQL, then you can install wordpress, some hosts provide fantastico (tso has this, no idea about reg1) which is like a two click install, but installing wordpress manually is so damn easy anyway.
Looking at register1, it's all just marketing! It has php and sql, so you can manually install wordpress on the £50 package (Formmail PHP Script is even listed twice :P)

I run wordpress on my site (hosted at tsohost), it all works fine, and have a max of 10 subdomains, and 1 addon domain, 10 email accounts, webmail.

If you want to run many blogs, then you can just run multiple blogs from one database on the 3 databases you get on tsohost.

If you are only going to be using a few resources (small bandwidth/disk space, a couple of subdomains, couple of blogs etc.) then go with TSOhost or another cheap provider. If you need the extra bandwidth/disk space, or unlimited subdomains/databases, then go for reg1 VDS, because it's better value for money, but only worth it if you're gonna use the extra capacity IMO.
edit: also, a VDS will provide you with guaranteed (or within a range?) of CPU and memory resources, so will probably (maybe?) be faster/more responsive than shared hosting.

All accounts have mailservers so e-mail scripts work fine :) And if you mention OcUK to their sales people, they'll probably throw in wordpress anyway. Myself and a few others have got freebies when mentioning OcUK.
