So i have an MG ZR 105 2003/03 with:
Alpine CD/MP3 HU
Alloys, PAS, CL, FSH, only 15k miles, boot spoiler, half leather, in metallic grey.

The insurance runs out in June and I fancy a new car at the same time, It needs to be fast / faster than the ZR ( <10s 0-60), reliable, cheapish to run (diesel perhaps) for whatever I can get for my ZR - guessing around £5000 + a few £100.

I really fancy a Mk3 Clio 172 but the insurance will probably be a bit too much :D (i'm 20, 1 NCB) and I dont really want to spend more than £1500 on insurance (paying £1700 atm FC). Something unusual would be nice too but it would have to have 4 seats so I can cart uni stuff and mates around. What are old Jags, MG Midgets, and older 3series' etc. like? Fuel consumption isn't too important as I only do about 4k a year.

any ideas?

You could always get an MGZR 1.8 120+ - 8.6 sec to 60. £5k would by you an immaculate 52 plate + spec model with about 30-35,000 miles

Your insurance seems really over the top though - I'm paying £970 Fully Comp on a 10 month policy with Admiral for my ZR 1.8. I'm 21 with 0 NCB and two fault claims in the last five years

Not sure if it's the + model, its got leather steering wheel, leather gearknob, half leather seats, but no elec windows or sunroof so I dunno!

Only payed £4500 for it so will be well happy with £5000 or maybe more!

Insurance does seem expensive considering its only group 8, i'm with Elephant which was slightly cheaper than Admiral. Hopefully it should drop quite a bit once I get 1 years no claims
