Hi iam currently running a 980ti through a 1440p g sync monitor and am considering a short term upgrade with my gpu until next year when hopefully I will get a complete new system. Now if I swap to a AMD card can I still use my monitor and just disable g sync or is i not s simple as that...cheers

It will work fine. As you said once you put in an AMD card g-sync will no longer function but it will still display an output.

What monitor do you have as it might support FreeSync too.

If not, as people have said, everything will function as normal although you may notice screen tearing with the lack of G-Sync.

I understand that but this is where it gets Abit confusing...if you have a powerful gpu and you are not pushing it should you be fine with the screen tearing...was that not the case before freesync and gsync monitors we're about..I'm not being funny just asking that's all...and btw thanks for the reply ..

You can use V-Sync as an alternative to get rid of tearing it just introduces more input lag which is why G-Sync/FreeSync is preferred.
