Well that's a pretty balanced system and will be good enough for your uses for a fair bit of time. What resolution are you using/size monitor? If it's quite a high one then perhaps the graphics but 4850 is still pretty good.

Also is the CPU overclocked? If not then that's something to do to prevent it becoming the bottleneck.

hi
i have a dell S2309W 24inch full hd wide screen flat panel on high resolution, just one thing when i play farcry2 and left4dead it says my i need newer drivers, it doesn't stop me playing the games but i am finding it hard to find the newest drivers. i one i have found is ati860 winxp32 any ideas if this is the right one. thanks

if i replaced the card with a hd4870 is it just a question of taking one out and slotting in a new one. thanks

Old habbit maybe but I always do a full uninstall and reinstall for graphics cards even if in the same GPU generation... Not sure if that is just superstition but it can't hurt!

Can't hurt, but there's normally not much point, especially if both cards are the same make.

he doesn't need to uninstall just put the driver disk in bacause hes using ati again the disk does everything it needs to do ie replaces old drivers with new ones and upgrades cccenter

For graphics card advice ask right before you buy as generally thing change very quickly the 4870 1gb is basicly needed if you want max graphics and no AA at the res for most games.

The new drivers will probably give you atleast a 10% performance boost from games.

From rumours the next gen card will be out around Oct(ATI) Jan(Nvidia) if you can wait but there's always something round the corner.

Is the 4870 really that much of a jump in performance from the 4850?

I played through COD4 the other night at 1920*1080 with all the options set to high, at a constant 60FPS. Seems usable enough for me. ;)

[Q6600@Stock, 8Gb RAM, Win7 64bit]

Haven't tried Crysis yet though...

thanks for everyone's help, so just to make it clear what is the best graphics card on the market today that i can put in my build and what is the new cards out later in the year.many thanks
