What’s your opinions on the Italian government refusing to allow the migrant rescue ship Aquarius permissi9n to dock in Italy? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-44432056

Over 600 migrants are on board and some of them are not in great physical condition. Italy has said Malta should take them, but they are refusing, so the ship is currently stranded in the Mediterranean awaiting further instruction. Apparently a second ship has also picked up migrants now.

It’s a tricky 9ne, Italy just can’t keep taking wave after wave of migrants, but they won’t stop coming. It could turn into an even bigger humanitarian crisis with swathes of migrant carrying ships stuck in the med. Italy should at least take the ones with physical problems, like the elderly and disabled.

One thing is certain though, this Salvini fellow means business.

Send some of them to the Clinton's neighbourhood, they started this war.

Realistically, a kind of of floating Calais, probably have to wait till people start dying then they will take them in or forceably send them back to Libya.

They reckon they can last a few days before the situation starts to get serious. If no one takes them, they will have no choice but to return to Libya.

I don't get why all the headlines are ITALY REFUSE MIGRANTS, when there is a long list of other countries who turn migrants away. No one tries to go to these other countries now because they know they can't (case in point Malta), and the first time Italy says no they are made out to be some fascist regime run by hard-right authoritarians.

What's the current situation in Libya, is it still civil war and are Isis still strong, what about countries like Morocco?

Just torpedo it and watch it sink? If it's in Italian waters make sure the coastguard don't go and save em, then film it put it on Youtube and say if we find anyone else illegally in our waters we'll just sink it :D Massive public outcry but at least you won't have "refugees" on your doorstep.

Is this not illegal? IF Italy was the closest country to where the migrants were picked up then the standard practice is to take them there.

edit - (I should have read the rest of the article before commenting) actually it isn't clear where they were rescued... if they were "rescued" just off the coast of Libya then the NGOs are basically just acting as the ferries here and perhaps it isn't surprising that Italy is getting fed up. The NGOs should be taking them to the nearest country AFAIK, if they pick them up just off the coast of Libya that should mean taking them straight back to Libya.

I guess Spain has a left wing government now, that could change though at the next election if they go all in on the "refugees welcome" thing.

edit - I should have read the original article - Malta should have taken them in.

Their argument was "But Malta is closer!!"

Yeah, a small island nation with less than 500,000 people should definitely be taking 1000's of African migrants every week

edit - At the point where they halted Malta was closer but the rescue has taken place off the coast of Libya. FYI I never said they should take in 1000s of African migrants every week. The NGOs shouldn't also just be acting as P&O for migrants... if they are legitimately just "rescuing" them at sea rather than facilitating illegal immigration.

I wasn't saying you did, but that's what Italy is now inferring.

I mean I know they cause problems on small Italian and Greek Islands, but at least those countries have the resources to cope. Malta wouldn't have a hope in hells chance.
