I'm currently with PlusNet and want to migrate over to Sky Broadband Unlimited with Talk, i already have Sky TV packages and just wanted to take advantage of there Anytime+ and also to be able to download in the day without having to worry bout a monthly usage.

I'm on a 20MB line and currently getting 14MB, my router stats are.....

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 14266 kbps 446 kbps
Line Attenuation 14.0 db 7.1 db
Noise Margin 12.4 db 22.5 db

and my line supports the following ........

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)

do i need a MAC code as i have heard that PlusNet can be very awkward at giving it to you and can take days before you get it but have heard that Sky can migrate over to the unlimited package without asking for the MAC code.

and one last thing will i be able to get the same line speeds as i get now with PlusNet or will i get alittle bit more ?

Regards

Dave

With those stats, you could get another 2Mb easily.

Get the MAC code, and give it to sky. Done.

I migrated to Sky from Plusnet, no problems getting a Mac code, I always found Plusnet's customer support very good. If they tell you there's a few days delay while they get one generated, take them on their word and wait a few days.

Have requested Mac Code from PlusNet, said will have it in the next 5 days.

Placed order with Sky and told me that they don't need a MAC Code as they generate one themselves even though i have told them that i will get one off PN.

Now just gotta wait for the free wireless router, not sure if i will get the free wireless connector aswell, i did mention it but said it was only if i couldn't get anytime+, still i don't think i will be using it as my router is next to the HD box so will be using a ethernet cable.

Are you taking Line rental, calls package and internet from Sky? if so it sounds liek they're putting you onto 'SVBN' which doesn't require a MAC.

Yes i'm taking out line rental, calls and broadband unlimited, sky did say they will generate a MAC Code, even though PlusNet are suppose to be supplying me a MAC Code and if i don't use it will my PlusNet Payments be cancelled or will i have to get intouch with them again to verify or should i just trust Sky to sort everything out ?

If Sky are taking over your line rental this will also place a cease charge on your exisiting broadband service with Plusnet. Sky and talk talk are known for taking over line renatl without notifying the loosing ISP and Bt will class this as a cease on their network and again will place a cease charge for broadband.

sorry to hijack a wee bit op, can i ask why you are going to sky?
i've just gone the other way as sky were terrible for my service here, not sure plusnet will be better but they will be cheaper!

I've had no problems with my Sky BB, but then again in over three years it's gone down maybe 5 times and then never for more than a few hours so I've never needed to phone them?

You was probably on their standard BT-kit ADSL network, most people here (including myself) are on their LLU network which is absolutely brilliant. :D
