Hi Folks

Just looking for a bit of advise re the migration.

I'm currently on Sky Unlimited, and wanting to migrate to BT infinity (my exchange has just been upgraded)

would there be a problem doing this as I'd be migrating and upgrading at the same time (I'd read a few threads saying it was easier to migrate the broadband to BT and then upgrade to Fibre at a later date)

also, does anyone have any experience of the accuracy of BT's speed estimates? (after giving my details they are quoting between 72-80mb) which is far higher than i'd expected considering I'm 0.5m from the exchange and currently only receiving 11.5mb from ADSL2.

Finally, does anyone know of any issues (traffic shaping etc) with Newsgroups on BT.

TIA

The last time I change my ISP was hmm, 2006 from AOL to BT, it was quite easy, I wasn't pretty clued up then and it was done fast and never had problems since.

But the reason why im replying is because I know one thing for sure, that ... well you mentioned

I'd read a few threads saying it was easier to migrate the broadband to BT and then upgrade to Fibre at a later date)

Im on btbroadband unlimited ADSL2, and don't have fiber yet, and its coming soon iv been looking into everything about it, and iv read as a 100% certain fact (I will link this info if I find it again)

But it said something along the lines of, "already in a bt broadband contract and want to upgrade to infinity, no problem as long as your cabinet is ready and there are no complications with your line there will be no extra charges, this applies with new customers who have just recently switched or purchased bt broadband"

But, its best to give them a ring at the end of the day, But switching isp from what I remember was a doddle like I said and that was years ago.

Best of luck! :)

Because you're likely to be on Sky 's LLU network it shouldn't be any problem to migrate from Sky to BT by asking BT to provide you with a service. You shouldn't need to contact Sky but I don't see the harm in calling up and asking to cancel to see what Fibre deals they have?

Distance from the exchange doesn't matter for Fibre Broadband, it's distance from your cabinet, hence Fibre To The Cabinet.

Your exchange has been upgraded but has your cabinet??

Also if your on a Sky network already and they have equipment in your exchange why don't you just see if SKY Fibre is available... there really is not that much difference as they all use the Openreach backbone.

after looking on Sky's site there was only the option for 40mb, every other BB supplier assessed my speed between 72-80mb, also my wife is BT staff we wouldnt be paying for it.

All providers offer the 80/20 service, but as Miss said, I think you have to call them on 08442 410 802 for the Fibre Pro package - it's strange indeed
