Migrating from Asus Merlin to OPNsense

Hi all,

I'm going to be migrating from my current Asus AX88U running Merlin's firmware to a Four Gigabit NIC Mini-PC running OPNSense (as it seems to be generally recommended over pfsense). I'm new to OPNsense and was wondering if anyone has any advice/tips for the transition. Key points are:

- I have just over 30 clients - a mix of wired and wireless.

- I am planning to keep the AX88U running in AP mode until I get round to replacing it with a dedicated AP.

- For my WAN connection, I have BT FTTP 500Mbit which uses PPPoE. WAN connection is straight from the ONT, no modem involved.

- I currently run a WireGuard VPN Server on the AX88U, which I will be migrating to OPNsense.

- I use PiHole and Unbound running on an RPi4 as my local DNS server/ad-blocker. I plan to keep this setup post-migration.

- AX88U currently runs my DHCP server, which I will need to migrate across to OPNsense, as it's not possible for the AX88U to do this when in AP mode.

My current plan is to install OPNsense and set it up on the same subnet i.e. current router is 192.168.50.1, I plan to setup OPNsense as 192.168.50.2, then once I've transferred manual IP entries into OPNsense, I was going to disable DHCP on the AX88U, enable DHCP within OPNsense and put the AX88U into AP mode...

I suspect I'm going to break a lot of things in the process and it's going to require a lot of tinkering, but does the above sound semi-sensible and does anyone have any advice before I dive in when my new hardware arrives?

Thanks.
